Mission

While a substantial amount of research has been conducted about both Indian archaeology and pottery styles in general, we have found that there are very limited resources that provide a systematically organized array of Indian pottery specifically, and no resources that cover them in much detail (as would be required for purposes of extensive research).

Thus, through this project, we aim to provide the above, showcasing different pottery styles from different times and regions on the Indian subcontinent. We plan to begin with focusing on just the Neolithic Age on the subcontinent, as it seems to be the least explored, and then gradually build the archive up to include subsequent chronological periods as well.

Most importantly, we wish to cultivate more recognition and appreciation of Indian art styles that are mostly forgotten or neglected, and we wish to highlight their historical, cultural, as well as aesthetic wonder. Handmade and traditional pottery is a rapidly dying art form, and by portraying its long history, we hope to rejuvenate it within the cultural consciousness.
